Battle of Khirokitia
The Mamluks capture the king of Cyprus
In reprisal for raids by Cypriot corsairs, Sultan Barsbay sent a fleet to Cyprus; on 7 July 1426 the Mamluks defeated King Janus and took him prisoner. The king was paraded through Cairo and ransomed, and the crusader kingdom became a tributary of Egypt.
