Qing army enters Lhasa
Tibet comes under Qing protection for two centuries
The Dzungars, who had seized Lhasa in 1717, were driven out by Qing troops escorting the new Dalai Lama, Kelzang Gyatso. A Qing garrison now stayed in Lhasa and imperial residents (ambans) followed: Tibet remained a Qing protectorate until 1912.
