Treaty of Küçük Kaynarca
Russia reaches the Black Sea; Crimea leaves the Sultan's rule

The treaty ended the Russo-Turkish War of 1768–1774: Russia gained Azov, Kerch, Kinburn and the steppe between the Dnieper and the Bug, and the right of merchant shipping on the Black Sea and through the Straits. The Crimean Khanate was declared independent of the Ottomans; nine years later Russia annexed it.
