The pirate haven of Île Sainte-Marie
A pirate supply depot off Madagascar, stocked from New York
Around 1691 the fugitive Englishman Adam Baldridge set up a trading post for Indian Ocean pirates on an island off Madagascar. He sold them rum, powder and food shipped by the New York merchant Frederick Philipse, and sent the loot back. Henry Every, Thomas Tew and William Kidd all called here.
