Mau Mau uprising
Kenyan fighters wage years of war on British colonial rule

In 1952 the British declared a state of emergency in Kenya over the Mau Mau uprising, waged mostly by Kikuyu who had lost land to white settlers. The revolt was crushed and tens of thousands of Kenyans were held in camps, but by 1963 Kenya was independent.
