Troops fire on workers protesting against price rises

In June 1962 workers at the locomotive plant went on strike after meat and butter prices were raised just as their pay rates were cut. On 2 June troops fired on the demonstration outside the party offices, killing 26; seven more were later executed. It stayed hushed up until 1989.
