Abai writes his Words of Edification
A Kazakh poet sets Pushkin's Tatyana to his own melody

In the 1890s Abai Kunanbayev wrote 45 short prose 'Words of Edification' on conscience, learning and work, a cornerstone of Kazakh written literature. He translated Pushkin and Lermontov and set Tatyana's letter from Eugene Onegin to his own tune, sung across the steppe like a folk song.
