Battle of Gettysburg
Three days, some 50,000 casualties: the Civil War's turning point

In July 1863 at the small town of Gettysburg the Union army repulsed General Lee's invasion in three days — the bloodiest battle of the American Civil War, with about 50,000 killed, wounded and missing. Four months later Lincoln gave a speech there of only about 270 words.
