Partition of Samoa
Germany and the US split the islands after a civil war
The convention signed in December 1899 ended the Second Samoan Civil War, in which Germany, the United States and Britain had intervened. The islands were divided: the western ones became a German colony and the eastern ones a US territory (now American Samoa), while Britain gave up its claims for concessions elsewhere.
