Norway leaves the union with Sweden
368,000 vote to end the union, 184 vote against
On 7 June 1905 the Storting declared the union with Sweden dissolved, and an August referendum backed the break by 368,208 votes to 184. Sweden recognised independence in October, and Prince Carl of Denmark became King Haakon VII.
