Anglo-Irish Treaty
Ireland becomes a dominion, minus six northern counties

On 6 December 1921, after the War of Independence, Michael Collins and Arthur Griffith signed a treaty in London: 26 counties became the Irish Free State, a dominion with an oath to the king, while Northern Ireland stayed in the United Kingdom. The dispute over it led to civil war.
