Java War
Prince Diponegoro fights the Dutch for five years
Prince Diponegoro of Yogyakarta rose against the Dutch colonial authorities and the nobles who backed them. The guerrilla war lasted five years and, by estimates, cost some 200,000 Javanese lives. In 1830 the prince was arrested during negotiations and exiled to Sulawesi, and the Dutch imposed the Cultivation System, enriching the Netherlands at Java's expense.
